Dedicated to aspects of intellectual and religious life in Jerusalem during the Mamluk period, the workshop will focus on the nature and extent of literate activity in the city. We aim to reevaluate the dynamics among the city‘s diverse communities in one of the most prolific periods in its history. It will be an opportunity to jointly reflect on the role of religious and non-religious texts, their production, distribution and use, within the framework of urban life.

WORKSHOP: Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz 23-24 Mai 2024
