The lecture series is supported by the Leibniz ScienceCampus – Byzantium between Orient and Occident – Mainz/Frankfurt, a cooperation between the Roman-Germanic Central Museum / Leibniz Center for Archaeology and the Johannes Gutenberg-University since 2011, which was expanded in 2019 to include the Goethe-University Frankfurt and the Leibniz Institute for European History. The aim is to conduct research on the Byzantine Empire, its history, culture, arts and material legacy in close interdisciplinary cooperation and to promote young researchers. The lecture series highlights current research questions and is aimed at both experts and the general public.
